1. “Though/ although/ evethough” + clause (tức là một câu có đầy đủ chủ ngữ, động từ, và bổ túc từ) -> trạng ngữ
ví dụ:

Mặc dù bài thi khó, nhưng tôi nghĩ tôi làm tôi.
a. Although the exam was difficult, I think i did well.
b. The exam was difficult, I think I did well though.
Mặc dù bài thi dễ, nhưng tôi rớt rồi.
c. Even though the exam was difficult, I failed.
2. “despite/ in spite of” + phrase (tức là một cụm từ không phải câu hoành chỉnh -> giới từ
ví dụ:
Mặc dùng anh ấy đã nổ lực hết xức, nhưng anh không thể nào thành công.
a. Despite his best effort, the man just couldn’t success.
b. In spite of his effort, the man just couldn’t success.
